Summary
Hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, Juvéderm Volux, effectively enhances chin projection with immediate lift and sustained volume for up to 90 days. Patients reported significant improvements in facial aesthetics and satisfaction following the minimally invasive procedure.
Area of Science:
- Facial Aesthetics
- Dermatology
- Plastic Surgery
Background:
- Chin augmentation is crucial for facial balance and aesthetics.
- Surgical methods offer durable results, while injectable fillers provide a minimally invasive option.
- The volumetric behavior of high-elastic modulus hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers for chin augmentation requires further definition.
Purpose of the Study:
- To prospectively evaluate short-term volumetric changes and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) after chin augmentation using HA filler.
- To assess the effectiveness of Juvéderm Volux for chin augmentation.
Main Methods:
- Prospective study involving 14 adult patients (aged 22-55) undergoing chin augmentation with Juvéderm Volux.
- Injections were performed on the periosteal, submuscular plane.
- Three-dimensional photogrammetry quantified volumetric changes; Tissue Displacement Factor (TDF), Effective Volume (EV), and Volume Maintenance (VM) were calculated. Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) were assessed using FACE-Q instruments.
Main Results:
- Mean injection volume was 2.86 ± 0.36 mL, with a mean TDF of 1.65 ± 0.46, indicating robust immediate lift.
- Effective Volume (EV) at 14 days was 104.2 ± 21.4%, with Volume Maintenance (VM) at 79.8 ± 10.2% (30 days) and 62.1 ± 25.7% (90 days).
- Significant improvements (p < 0.05) were observed in FACE-Q scores for chin shape, lower face, underchin, and overall appearance.
Conclusions:
- Juvéderm Volux HA filler provides effective chin augmentation with strong immediate volumetric response and sustained volume retention.
- The filler demonstrated significant improvements in patient-reported satisfaction through 90 days.
- Findings support Volux as a viable minimally invasive alternative for lower facial contouring, although larger studies are warranted.
