Successful Kidney Transplantation in Turner Syndrome: A Case for Feasibility and Favorable Outcomes

Abstract:
Turner syndrome (TS) leads to various abnormalities, including renal malformations that can progress to end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Although rarely performed in patients with TS, renal transplantation offers significant benefits over dialysis. We report the case of a 34-year-old female with TS and ESRD who underwent a successful living-donor kidney transplantation. Preoperative imaging revealed atrophic, malformed native kidneys located entirely in the pelvic region. A suitable graft bed was meticulously created in the right iliac fossa without the need for native nephrectomy. At the 9-month postoperative follow-up, the patient demonstrated excellent and stable graft function. This case highlights the feasibility of kidney transplantation in patients with TS and underscores the importance of careful preoperative planning and a multidisciplinary approach to overcome unique anatomical challenges.
