Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate sex-based differences in leukocyte mobilization and immune cell recovery following a single bout of high-volume, glycolytic resistance exercise.
  • To analyze the time course of immune cell changes in men and women during the early recovery phase after exercise.

Main Methods:

  • Thirty-four men and 24 women performed 6 sets of 10 repetitions of barbell squats at 65% of 10-repetition maximum.
  • Venous blood samples were collected pre-exercise, 15 minutes post-exercise, and 60 minutes post-exercise.
  • Flow cytometry quantified lymphocytes, T cell subsets (CD4+, CD8+), B cells, NK cells, and activation markers (CD69, CD25, CD127).

  • These findings underscore the influence of sex on the acute immune response to resistance exercise and the dynamics of immune cell recovery.
