A method for quantitative assessment of occlusal contacts recorded by a digital occlusal analysis system

Abstract:
Analysis of occlusal contacts is essential to achieve harmonious occlusion after prosthodontic rehabilitation. The current article describes a method that can quantify the number, area, and intensity of occlusal contacts recorded by a digital occlusal analysis system using an image analysis software program. The method provides a quantitative assessment that can be used for objective comparison between different occlusal analysis systems, allowing clinicians to reach more sound conclusions on which occlusal analysis systems are more reliable.
