In Vitro Preservation of Vanilla (Vanila planifolia Jacks. Ex Andrew) by Slow Growth

Mexico is the center of origin and domestication of Vanilla planifolia Jacks. However, according to NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010, it is listed as being at risk and subject to special protection. It is therefore important to undertake conservation strategies. Slow growth techniques are an option for short- and medium-term storage. They have as a starting point a good in vitro culture protocol, to which modifications are made to cause a decrease in the growth and metabolism of the plant and thus extend the culture period. This chapter describes the process of medium-term conservation of V. planifolia by the slow-growth technique.
