Long-Term Storage of Vanilla (Vanilla planifolia Jacks.) by Cryopreservation Method

The conservation of plant genetic resources is a global issue that must be addressed through innovative and cutting-edge strategies. Cryopreservation techniques for plant tissues allow for long-term storage. Vanilla (Vanilla planifolia) is a plant species with wide economic interest due to the extraction of vanillin through its processed pods. Mexico is the center of origin and domestication of this crop; however, long-term conservation strategies have not been established. This chapter describes the long-term conservation process of V. planifolia through cryopreservation.
