Abstract:
One of the most important timber species due to its precious wood and high commercial value is Cedrela odorata L. This species is overexploited for timber production, which is why it was included in NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010 in the special protection category. For this reason, it is essential to carry out actions for the conservation of this species and its genetic diversity. In this context, a biotechnological technique for the long-term conservation of plant germplasm is cryoconservation. This technique consists of stopping cellular metabolism by freezing them at -196°C, while the cells remain alive. There are different techniques within the cryopreservation method; however, for the long-term conservation of Cedrela odorata L. the best method was cryo-plate vitrification. Therefore, the objective of this work is to describe the cryopreservation technique of Cedrela odorata L. plant tissue using the cryo-plate vitrification method.
