Cotton genetic and metabolic diversity underpins key agronomic traits, yet its regulatory basis remains unclear. Recently, Zhang et al. identified MYB (myeloblastosis) transcription factors as central hubs to coordinate primary and secondary metabolism in ovules, directly linking structural variation to fiber quality and yield, and providing a framework for metabolome-guided breeding.
