Abstract:
Excessive nitrogen fertilizer use causes nitrogen loss, soil acidification, and crop heavy metal accumulation, endangering food safety. This study investigated the synergistic effects of the nitrification inhibitor dicyandiamide (DCD) and ABA-producing bacteria under different N fertilizer conditions on Cd accumulation and pak choi growth. Co-application reduced Cd content in the edible parts of pak choi by 20.5%-24.5% under ammonium and urea treatments compared with the without DCD and ABA-producing bacteria, while increasing aboveground biomass by 40.4%-93.9%, soluble protein by 46.7%-61.7%, and sugar by 76.2%-134.0%. DCD alone elevated soil pH, lowering soil Cd bioavailability by 11.0%-13.2% and suppressing Cd uptake genes expression (IRT1 and IRT2), compared with DCD free treatment. Correlation and structural equation modeling confirmed a synergistic effect, where DCD modulates soil chemical properties to reduce Cd bioavailability, while ABA-producing bacteria enhance plant Cd tolerance via ABA-mediated physiological regulation, offering a sustainable strategy for safer, higher-quality crop production.
