Proud of the changes we have made

This narrative discusses a male patient who had a kidney transplant and his wife. After visiting his doctor along with his wife, everything changed. He started to do what he was supposed to do-home dialysis, taking his medicines. He worked with the bank and was able to keep his home and car. He got onto the kidney transplant list and a year later got his transplant. In a physician commentary, one of the authors discusses how they hoped the couple might benefit from talking together about their worries about his prognosis. In couples with chronic or potentially terminal illness, good communication is even more important than usual. The shared visit with the physician helped open their communication.
