Interferences in degree of coherence and polarization with partially coherent light beams
Abstract:
We theoretically propose an experimental scheme to observe the interference effect in the degree of coherence and polarization. With the fact that the phase difference can be significantly affected by the low coherence length, we predict that the degree of coherence and polarization of the light beam after passing through a double-slit can be modified dramatically. In this work, we introduce the concept of cross-spectral-density interference, which manifests directly in measurable changes in the degree of coherence and polarization. An analytical solution is derived to support the proposed model. The scheme is experimentally feasible, and we anticipate that the predicted interference effects in coherence and polarization can be observed in future experiments.
