Closed Reconstruction of Depressed Frontal Sinus Fractures: An Innovative Technique

Abstract:
This article describes a novel technique for reconstructing a frontal sinus fracture that minimizes the risks associated with conventional approaches. In this study, we report a patient presented with a depressed frontal sinus fracture following a car accident. Through a small (5 mm) sub-brow incision, a freer elevator was inserted beneath the fractured fragments to elevate them. A 16-gauge venous catheter was then introduced horizontally from the medial aspect of the bone, exiting at the lateral side. Following this, a 24-gauge wire was threaded through the catheter, which was subsequently removed. The same procedure was applied vertically, and the same wire was again placed. Two months postsurgery, the patient demonstrated a normal frontal contour, with the frontal bone contour preserved and no functional disorders reported. In conclusion, this innovative procedure underscores the potential for creative solutions to address complex clinical challenges in frontal fracture reconstructive surgery.
