Abstract:
We present an I2-mediated oxidative dearomatization of carboxylic acid-tethered indole derivatives, enabling the synthesis of diverse spirooxindole-lactones in water. Isotope labelling studies demonstrated a dual role for water, acting as both reaction medium and oxygen source of oxindole. The low E-factor and high EcoScale further highlight the synthetic utility of this system.

Oxidation of Alcohols
The process of oxidation in a chemical reaction is observed in any of the three forms:
Preparation of Epoxides
Epoxides result from alkene oxidation, which can be achieved by a) air, b) peroxy acids, c) hypochlorous acids, and d) halohydrin cyclization.
Epoxidation with Peroxy Acids
Epoxidation of alkenes via oxidation with peroxy acids involves the conversion of a carbon–carbon double bond to an epoxide using the oxidizing agent meta-chloroperoxybenzoic acid, commonly known as MCPBA. Since the O–O bond of peroxy acids is very weak, the addition of electrophilic oxygen of peroxy...
