The limited cycle life of anode-free sodium metal batteries (AFSMBs) remains a key obstacle to practical application, largely due to the mechanical and electrochemical instability of modified current-collector interfaces. Here, we report a magneto-electric coupling strategy to construct structurally robust and sodiophilic multicomponent alloy current collectors. Zn-containing alloy phases lower the Na nucleation barrier and mitigate volume strain. Fe/Co/Ni-based ferromagnetic phases introduce Lorentz-force regulation of Na+ flux, and Cu provides mechanical buffering and improved interfacial compatibility. Benefiting from this synergistic design, symmetric cells deliver stable Na plating/stripping for over 3500 h at 1 mA cm-2 and 1 mAh cm-2, while anode-free full cells retain 60% of their capacity after 200 cycles at 5 C. This study presents a promising pathway for developing long-life anode-free sodium metal batteries through stabilizing the interface of current collectors.

Spontaneous redox reactions occur abundantly in nature. The chemical reaction occurring in a disposable AA battery powering our remote controls is one such example of a spontaneous redox reaction. Another example is the immersion of coiled copper wire into an aqueous silver nitrate solution. The reaction shows a gradual, visually impressive color change from colorless to bright blue and the formation of a grey precipitate on the copper wire. In this experiment,...
