This study reports the novel use of a Watchman device to successfully close a recurrent mitral paravalvular leak (PVL) and perform left atrial appendage occlusion in a high-risk patient. This single-device approach simplified treatment and improved outcomes.
Area of Science:
- Cardiovascular Medicine
- Interventional Cardiology
- Medical Devices
Background:
- An 81-year-old male experienced recurrent symptomatic mitral paravalvular leak (PVL) post-multiple valve replacements.
- The patient suffered from heart failure hospitalizations and hemolytic anemia, complicating anticoagulation for atrial fibrillation and high thromboembolic risk.
