Placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells (PD-MSCs) can treat diabetic retinopathy (DR). Engineering these cells to overexpress PEDF (PD-MSCsPEDF) enhances their anti-angiogenic effects, improving vascular damage in diabetic retinas.
