Abstract:
Academic promotion requires faculty to demonstrate evidence of a growing reputation in their field and increase geographic influence. Sponsorship plays a pivotal role in helping faculty gain opportunities to accelerate professional growth and recognition. In this article, we highlight the role of sponsorship in academic promotion for clinician educators and empower junior faculty to proactively secure sponsorship. We give tips on how to achieve sponsorship including how to prepare prior to meeting with sponsors, how to find sponsors, and how to maintain sponsorship relationships.
