Early osteoarthritis shows preferential proteoglycan loss in the extracellular matrix (ECM) compared to the pericellular matrix (PCM). - This proteoglycan redistribution occurs particularly in the middle zone of articular cartilage.
- These findings provide insights into the early biomechanical and compositional changes in cartilage following injury.
