Lung Cancer in Morocco

Morocco faces a persistent gap between international standards for thoracic oncology and local capacity, driven by limited diagnostics, uneven access to molecular testing, fragmented procurement and reimbursement, and high out-of-pocket costs. This manuscript synthesizes clinical experience, service-level data, and policy analysis to map the continuum of lung cancer care in Morocco, from symptom recognition and diagnostic pathways to multidisciplinary decision-making, treatment delivery, and survivorship. We describe current infrastructure and practice including concentrated computed tomography-guided and endobronchial biopsy services, constrained pathology and immunohistochemistry workflows, limited public-sector access to next-generation sequencing and targeted therapies, uneven radiotherapy and surgical capacity, and fragmented palliative and survivorship services. Finally, we evaluate recent policy developments, including the 2023 rollout of Assurance de Maladie Obligatoire and the establishment of the Agence Marocaine du Médicament et des Produits de Santé, and identify persistent operational barriers that limit population-level benefit.
