Melatonin, a multifunctional phytohormone, has been demonstrated to enhance plant resistance against various pathogens, including plant viruses. This chapter provides a detailed protocol for the exogenous application of melatonin via two primary methods: foliar spray and root irrigation. The authors describe the preparation of melatonin solutions, optimal concentration ranges, treatment schedules, and practical considerations for maximizing its antiviral efficacy in plants. The methods outlined here are derived from successful applications in controlling plant viruses.
