Growing demand for bioethics training in Africa due to increased graduate programs.
Need to evaluate existing postdoctoral bioethics programs.

Purpose of the Study:

Evaluate the Fogarty African Bioethics Consortium Post-Doctoral Fellowship program.
Explore trainee experiences and career impact in home countries.

Main Methods:

Exploratory qualitative design.
In-depth interviews with six fellows of the postdoctoral training program.

Main Results:

Trainees expressed high satisfaction with the program, finding it met their expectations.
Mentorship identified as the most valuable program component.
All interviewed fellows are actively engaged in bioethics activities post-training.

Conclusions:

The Fogarty program effectively prepares bioethicists for impactful careers in Africa.
African universities must develop sustainable strategies for postdoctoral bioethics training.
