Abstract:
As a premier class of functional luminescent materials, polymers with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) features have attracted significant attention due to their efficient solid-state fluorescence, excellent processability, and structural versatility. Among the diverse synthetic methodologies, alkyne-based two-component polymerizations stand out as a robust and efficient paradigm, offering the merits of high atom economy, exceptional regioselectivity, and mild operational conditions. By strategically translating established small-molecule transformation into macromolecular systems, this approach provides an unparalleled platform for engineering polymers with precisely tailored backbone topologies and sophisticated functionalities. In this review, we highlight the recent methodological breakthroughs in the development of alkyne-based two-component protocols. The representative applications of the resulting AIE polymers are illustrated. Perspectives on the current challenges and future evolutionary trajectories of this vibrant field are also discussed.
