Abstract:
Cardiometabolic disease (CMD) is highly prevalent in older adults and presents unique challenges for this population, including increased hypoglycemia risk and sarcopenic obesity. Accordingly, management of CMD in this population should emphasize evidence-based strategies such as lifestyle interventions, personalized glycemic targets, and medical therapies that reduce the risk of geriatric syndromes and adverse outcomes. Individualized care in older adults remains a necessity to balance therapeutic benefits against age-related vulnerabilities like frailty and polypharmacy. Older adults continue to be underrepresented in clinical trials, and more research is needed to optimize CMD management and improve outcomes in this rapidly expanding demographic.
