Abstract:
Cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) frequently co-occur with cardiovascular disease due to overlapping risk factors and pathologies. Midlife cardiovascular risks such as hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, smoking, and obesity greatly contribute to dementia risk, and are prime targets for risk reduction strategies. Effective management of these factors requires a precision, age-specific approach, as interventions beneficial in midlife may need to be modified in late life. Integrating genomics, biomarkers, risk scores, and individualized profiling enables more accurate risk stratification and targeted prevention across the lifespan, offering a promising strategy to reduce the dual burden of cardiovascular and NDDs.
