Background:
The assessment of caffeine consumption behaviors requires linguistically and culturally validated instruments.
Objectives:
The aim of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Caffeine Addiction Scale (CAS) in young adults.
Methods:
The stages of the data collection included 306 and 529 young adults, respectively. Data were collected using Personal Information Form and CAS. For the evaluation of the data exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) were used.
Results:
In the analyses, the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) value was found as 0.96 and Bartlett's test result as χ2=6194.291. The single-factor structure of the scale explained 57.69% of the variance, and the internal consistency reliability coefficient was .96. The confirmatory factor analysis yielded a chi-square/degree of freedom value (911.107/ 248) of 3.674, an RMSEA of .07, and an RMR of .03. The fit indices were GFI=.92, AGFI=.91, CFI=.92, NFI=.91, RFI=.88, IFI=.90, and TLI=.91.
Conclusions:
The findings suggested that the CAS is a valid and reliable scale in Turkish young adults.
