Usability Evaluation of CROSS Software for Adult Patients Triage

This study aimed to develop and assess the usability of the Online Risk Classification Software for Health Systems (CROSS) for adult patient triage. This is a technological development study using a prototyping approach, carried out between June 2023 and November 2024 in 2 phases: (1) development of the software based on evidence from the literature, and (2) usability evaluation by 8 nurses with experience in patient triage from southern Brazil. Participants completed the System Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaire online. Data were analyzed through the calculation of individual and overall scores, mean, and standard deviation. The software was developed using the TypeScript programming language and PostgreSQL database. It includes functional expressions that assign a triage color, assisting in prioritizing patient care. The usability evaluation resulted in an overall score of 92.19 points, classifying the software as "best imaginable." The user experience of this technology was positively evaluated by experts in the field and shows strong potential for impact and broad applicability once the registration process is complete and the system is made available for use.
