None:
The absence of automated processes that allow information to be extracted from Electronic Health Records (EHRs) continues to be a limitation for the reuse of data for secondary purposes. In many environments, this transfer of information from EHRs to electronic data collection platforms (eCRFs) for research, such as REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture), continues to be mostly manual, which implies a high workload and increases the risk of errors. This study has developed a solution based on FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) standard that has enabled the extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) of clinical data from the EHR to REDCap. The proposal has been implemented at Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre as part of a strategy to improve efficiency, traceability and reproducibility in data management for biomedical research. To validate the functionality of this work, clinical information on nearly 800 hip fracture patients from January 2024 to May 2025 was uploaded in FHIR format from the EHR to REDCap. The implemented system offers a transparent, flexible, reproducible workflow based on standards and adaptable to health data collection needs.
