Background:

High-quality patient data is crucial for medical research.
Longitudinal electronic health records facilitate secondary data use.
Web-based patient portals are increasingly used for patient interaction.

Purpose of the Study:

To apply UX design principles to develop a data donation prototype within a patient portal.
To report preliminary evaluation findings of the wireframe prototype.

Main Methods:

A multidisciplinary User Centered Design (UCD) approach was used.
A skinned wireframe prototype was developed.
Preliminary user experience evaluation employed the think-aloud method.

Main Results:

An interactive prototype for data donation and consent workflow was created.
The prototype was integrated into a web-based portal.
Preliminary evaluation indicated high user acceptance due to clarity and topic importance.

Conclusions:

Preliminary UX evaluation provided valuable input for future design.
Further research requires a larger, persona-centered test audience.
Future work will focus on iterations of the software-developed prototype.
