The Impact of MOUD Initiation in Patients With Injection Drug Use-Associated Infective Endocarditis

Abstract:
This single-center retrospective study evaluated 218 patients with injection drug use-associated infective endocarditis, 169 of whom received medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). Initiation of MOUD was associated with a nonsignificant increase in completion of antibiotic treatment and a significant reduction in 30-day postdischarge mortality, but not 90-day mortality.
