Summary

This study evaluated a multi-target stool DNA (mt-sDNA) test for colorectal cancer screening in Malaysia. The mt-sDNA test showed promising specificity and a high negative predictive value for detecting colorectal cancer.

Background:

  • Colorectal cancer (CRC) is often diagnosed late in Malaysia, despite available screening like the immunological Faecal Occult Blood Test (iFOBT).
  • Low screening uptake and adherence contribute to delayed CRC diagnosis and poorer patient outcomes.
  • There is a need for effective, non-invasive, and patient-friendly screening tools for early CRC detection.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To validate the diagnostic performance of the multi-target stool DNA (mt-sDNA) test.
  • To assess the utility of mt-sDNA as a screening tool for colorectal cancer in a Malaysian population.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional validation study conducted at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) from January 2024 to September 2025.
