    Main Methods:

    • A cross-sectional, mixed-methods design was employed with 41 adults one year post-BPI surgical repair.
    • Quantitative data collected using Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (QuickDASH), Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM), and Participation Behaviour Questionnaire (PBQ).
    • Qualitative data from semistructured COPM interviews were thematically analyzed and linked to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework.

    • Self-care and productivity were the most common challenges reported by participants.
    • Moderate correlation between upper-extremity disability (QuickDASH) and occupational performance (COPM), with strong correlation between performance and satisfaction.
    • QuickDASH scores strongly correlated with participation restrictions (PBQ); qualitative data revealed significant psychosocial impacts and identity concerns beyond quantitative metrics.

    Conclusions:

    • One year post-BPI surgery, individuals achieve partial functional recovery but encounter persistent personal and environmental barriers to full participation.
    • Quantitative measures alone do not capture the full spectrum of challenges, including psychosocial impacts and existential concerns.
    • Rehabilitation programs should integrate physical restoration with environmental adaptations and psychosocial support to enhance occupational competence, identity, and participation.
