The dental unit serves as fundamental equipment for ensuring the quality and efficiency of dental care, as well as the safety of both dentists and patients. Its development over several centuries has been continuously driven by structural and functional innovation, ergonomic optimization, and the pursuit of enhanced clinical efficiency. This review systematically traces the evolutionary trajectory of the dental unit from a simple dental chair to an intelligent, digitally integrated treatment system. By summarizing the key technological advancements throughout its development, this paper aims to provide historical insights and forward-looking perspectives to foster the independent innovation and clinical application of dental medical equipment in China.
