Abstract:
In this issue of Structure, Deng et al.1 report the structure of chicken IgY bound to FcRY, the receptor responsible for the transport of this antibody to the developing embryo. Comparison with the functionally equivalent mammalian IgG-receptor complex reveals not only major differences but also evolutionary convergence to a histidine-based, pH-dependent mechanism.
