Dysregulated circRNA Expression in Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) show altered expression in Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy (JME). Specific circRNAs, hsa_circ_0002010 and hsa_circ_0000143, were upregulated, while hsa_circ_0000249 was downregulated in JME patients, suggesting their role in the disorder.

Background:
- Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy (JME) is a common idiopathic generalized epilepsy syndrome with unclear molecular underpinnings.
- Circular RNAs (circRNAs), stable non-coding RNAs, play regulatory roles and are increasingly implicated in neurological disorders.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the association between specific circRNAs (hsa_circ_0000218, hsa_circ_0000229, hsa_circ_0000249, hsa_circ_0002010, and hsa_circ_0000143) and Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy (JME).

- Total RNA was extracted from peripheral blood of 41 JME patients and 41 healthy controls.
