Measurement of iridium isotopic concentration using proton-induced Coulomb excitation technique

Abstract:
This study utilizes the Coulomb excitation technique with a Van de Graaff accelerator to precisely measure the γ-ray emissions of natural and enriched iridium samples, specifically targeting isotopes 191Ir and 193Ir. By analyzing and comparing the gamma emissions from both samples, the concentration of 191Ir in the enriched sample was accurately determined to be 88%. This non-destructive method demonstrates the reliability and precision of Coulomb excitation for isotopic analysis, offering a robust approach to isotopic quantification that is especially relevant for nuclear physics research, isotope enrichment, and radiopharmaceutical development. The results underscore the potential of this technique as a powerful tool for isotopic analysis across a range of elements with high atomic numbers, facilitating applications in industrial materials research and targeted medical therapies.
