This post hoc analysis of the Fast Advanced Closed-Loop Therapy study investigated associations between temporary target (TempT) use and exercise-related glycemia. Youth with type 1 diabetes (T1D) used automated insulin delivery with two insulin formulations in a 4-week crossover study. Participants were encouraged to exercise using TempT and capture sessions with an activity monitor. Twenty-two participants (mean age 15 ± 1 years) had a median of 0.87 TempT initiations per week and a median duration of 120 mins per initiation. TempT use was associated with longer exercise (110 vs. 78 min, P < 0.001) and higher maximum heart rate (169 vs. 150 beats/min, P < 0.001) during exercise. TempT sessions more often met the >50% time in tight range (TITR) target without hypoglycemia <70 mg/dL versus non-TempT (54% vs. 37%, P = 0.004). TempT may help youth with T1D exercise for longer and at a higher intensity while maintaining high TITR without an increased risk of hypoglycemia.
