Minimally Invasive/Robotic Surgery for Colon Cancer

Minimally invasive surgery has transformed colon cancer care, with robotic colectomy emerging as a safe evolution of laparoscopy. This article reviews epidemiology, staging, multimodality therapy, and Level 1 evidence comparing robotic, laparoscopic, and open colectomy. Technical details for right, left, sigmoid, and total colectomies are outlined, emphasizing port placement, key landmarks, and intracorporeal anastomosis. Robotic surgery achieves equivalent oncologic outcomes with lower conversion and faster recovery, though with longer operative times and higher costs.
