Abstract:
Sensory feedback from muscle afferents that recruit spinal pathways is essential for coordination and stability. Dysregulation of these neural circuits may result in impaired coordinated motor behavior. Here, we present a protocol for assessing the stretch reflex in the adult decerebrate mouse. We describe steps for leg dissection, recording setup, decerebration, and reflex recording. This protocol can capture changes in muscle mechanics, sensory encoding, and ultimately muscle force generation under varying conditions.
