Abstract:
Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6) is a protein released by type II alveolar cells in response to injury or inflammatory stimuli. This release results in a significant increase in serum KL-6 levels, making it a useful biomarker for diagnosing and evaluating the prognosis of various respiratory diseases. It is particularly relevant for the diagnosis, stratification and treatment of interstitial lung disease (ILD). This review provides a concise review of the clinical value of serum KL-6 in the management of ILD, emphasizing its potential to improve patient care and outcomes.
