Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting: Cannabinoids

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is a phytocannabinoid that primarily interacts with the CB1 receptor, a type of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) predominantly in and around the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) and emetic center. THC also blocks the serotonin receptor activity in the dorsal vagal complex (DVC) by inhibiting serotonin release. Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between cannabis-related disorders (CRD) and the risk of developing tinnitus.
  • To analyze the impact of varying levels of cannabis use intensity on tinnitus incidence.
  • To examine short-term (1-year) and long-term (5 and 10-year) risks.

  • A propensity-score-matched cohort study utilizing the TriNetX multi-institutional research database.
  • Adult patients with CRD were matched to a control group without CRD history.
