Retzius-sparing laparoscopic radical prostatectomy is feasible in select patients, achieving high completion rates and good functional outcomes. Early results show promising continence and oncologic control in this nonrobotic approach.

Robot-assisted Total Mesorectal Excision and Lateral Pelvic Lymph Node Dissection for Locally Advanced Middle-low Rectal Cancer

Main Results:

  • 86.7% of procedures completed via posterior RSLRP; 13.3% required hybrid anterior completion; no open conversions.
  • Mean operative time: 224.6 min; mean blood loss: 307.7 mL.
  • Major complications: 13.3% (including one ureteral injury). Positive margins: 23.3%.
  • Social continence rates reached 93.3% by 18 months.
  • Persistent PSA and biochemical recurrence rates: 6.7% and 20.0%, respectively.

Conclusions:

  • Nonrobotic RSLRP is technically feasible in selected patients, with high rates of posterior approach completion.
  • Functional and oncologic outcomes are encouraging but require cautious interpretation due to study limitations.
  • Further research with larger cohorts and longer follow-up is warranted.
