Abstract:
Epigenetic variation may be key to rapid adaptation and can interact with genetic change during evolutionary rescue. However, key questions remain, including whether epigenetic shifts precede genetic change, persist long-term, or influence fitness. We propose that temporal sampling across multigenerational studies is the most promising means to close these gaps.
