Spontaneous Closure of a Macular Hole Secondary to Paracentral Acute Middle Maculopathy After Vitrectomy for Retinal

Purpose:
To report a case of spontaneous closure of a macular hole secondary to paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM) following vitrectomy for retinal detachment.
Methods:
Case report.
Results:
A 67-year-old female patient with a history of rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, and peripheral vascular occlusive disease underwent pars plana vitrectomy for retinal detachment. Following surgery, a parafoveal grayish lesion was observed on color fundus photography, and optical coherence tomography revealed a band-like hyperreflective lesion in the inner nuclear layer. A macular hole secondary to PAMM also developed in the patient and was closed spontaneously.
Conclusion:
This report describes spontaneous closure of a macular hole secondary to PAMM following vitrectomy for retinal detachment. The possibility of this complication should be considered, especially in patients presenting with systemic risk factors.
