A Ruptured Dacryocystocele Mimicking an Infantile Hemangioma

Dacryocystoceles are a rare congenital anomaly of the nasolacrimal drainage system that may present as bluish medial canthal masses in neonates, and can be mistaken for vascular tumors, such as infantile hemangiomas. We report the case of a 2-week-old infant initially suspected of having a deep infantile hemangioma, who was ultimately diagnosed with a dacryocystocele through targeted ultrasonography. This case highlights the importance of early ultrasound evaluation in diagnostically ambiguous periorbital lesions, as well as emphasizes careful differentiation of dacryocystoceles from infantile hemangiomas to ensure accurate diagnosis and optimal patient management.
