Abstract:
In this study, chlorine-free trityl radicals MesDPM-H (D0) and deuterated MesDPM-D were synthesized and their luminescence and excited-state reactivity were investigated. Their excited-state (D1) lifetimes of ∼20 ns were 3-4 times longer than that of TTM, with photoluminescence quantum yields of 3.4% in benzene and 1.2% in dichloromethane. Time-resolved transient absorption measurements revealed that D1 undergoes both intramolecular radical cyclization and intermolecular reactions with ground state D0. Furthermore, cyclized radical C was found to react intermolecularly with D0.
