Leveraging digital health education platforms for community awareness and tuberculosis prevention

Abstract:
This study evaluates whether a digital tuberculosis (TB) education platform is associated with more timely TB screening during a community rollout. Evidence from real-world deployment on short-term TB prevention behaviors remains limited. A prospective stepped-wedge rollout across community clusters compared TB screening uptake within 90 days after first platform exposure with earlier periods under standard outreach. Screening completion was taken from community registers when available, and from surveys when register linkage was not available. In a period-adjusted mixed effects model that accounted for clustering, the post minus pre difference was 0.047 [0.012, 0.082], and the P value was 0.009. These findings relate to screening uptake and related behaviors, and may inform TB program implementers and community health worker training supervisors who are adding digital education to routine outreach.
