  • Participants experienced both VR-based educational sessions and standard of care (SOC) on consecutive days.
  • Primary outcome: intrinsic motivation; Secondary outcomes: educational self-efficacy, well-being, self-esteem, parental experience.
  • Main Results:

    • Intrinsic motivation scores were significantly higher in the VR condition compared to SOC (P = .0048).
    • Parental satisfaction was also significantly greater with the VR intervention (P = .0008).
    • 100 out of 156 enrolled patients were analyzed (mean age 11.5 years; 43.9% female).

    Conclusions:

    • Bedside VR education is a feasible, acceptable, and scalable method to support inpatient learning.
    • VR interventions can effectively enhance intrinsic motivation and well-being in hospitalized children.
    • This approach improves caregiver satisfaction and offers a valuable adjunct to traditional educational support.
