iPS Cell Differentiation01:22

iPS Cell Differentiation

The ability of induced pluripotent stem cells or iPSCs to differentiate into most body cell types has stimulated repair and regenerative medicine research over the past few decades. iPSC-derived blood cells, hepatocytes, beta islet cells, cardiomyocytes, neurons, and other cell types can repair injuries or regenerate damaged tissue in diseases such as diabetes and neurodegenerative disorders.

Area of Science:

  • Scientific publishing ethics
  • Image reuse in research
  • Biomaterials research

Background:

  • A previous publication in Cell Journal (Vol 23, No 3, 2021) contained an error.
  • Figure 2H of the article inadvertently included an image from a prior publication.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To correct an error in a published scientific article.
  • To provide the accurate figure for scientific record.

Main Methods:

  • Identification of image reuse in Figure 2H.
  • Comparison with original image source (Biomaterials, 2016).

Main Results:

  • Figure 2H panel (S2-EC/CD31-DAPI) was found to contain an inadvertently reused image.
  • The correct figure has been identified and is provided.

Conclusions:

  • The authors apologize for the error and inconvenience caused by the image reuse.
  • The scientific record is corrected with the appropriate figure.
