Calvarial Model of Bone Augmentation in Rabbit for Assessment of Bone Growth and Neovascularization in Bone Substitution Materials

  • Buccal bone stability was assessed using CBCT, alongside implant survival, Probing Depth (PD), Bleeding on Probing (BOP), and Plaque Index (PI).
  • Patient satisfaction was measured using the Oral Health Impact Profile-5 (OHIP-5) questionnaire.
  • Main Results:

    • The implant survival rate was 100% in both bioceramic (BC) and xenograft (BO) groups.
    • Bioceramic (BC) group showed significantly less horizontal buccal bone thickness reduction (-0.28 mm) compared to the xenograft (BO) group (-0.91 mm) one year post-crown delivery (p=0.0000).
    • No significant differences were found in PI, BOP, or PD; patient satisfaction remained high in both groups.

    Conclusions:

    • Guided bone regeneration (GBR) with bioceramic material results in stable buccal bone on dental implants one year after crown placement.
    • Bioceramic appears to be a favorable material for GBR, minimizing bone resorption compared to xenografts.
    • Both materials support high implant survival rates and patient satisfaction, but bioceramic offers superior bone stability.
