Abstract:
This work highlights a vapor-liquid interface reaction leading to the covalent functionalization of {Mo36} polyoxomolybdate with triethanolamine, yielding a material with the formula [HN(CH2CH2OH)3]2[H14Mo36O116(OH)2(H2O)8{(HN(CH2CH2OH)3}2]·12H2O (1). In addition, this method overcomes the inherent solubility limitation of polyoxometalates by yielding an inorganic-organic hybrid material that is water-insoluble, thereby enabling its practical use in proton conduction. This molecule-to-material approach has resulted in a chain-like polymer exhibiting proton conductivity as high as 1.1 × 10-2 S cm-1 at 60 °C and 98% RH.
